I came to Capital Day School in the fall of 1996, the same year that my daughter entered Kindergarten. I had earned a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Housing and Interior Design from the University of Kentucky in 1988.

Having children was a pivotal point in my life. I became fascinated with the development of infants and young children. I assisted at my daughter's preschool, then took a teacher's aide position at Capital Day. During my years at Capital Day I continued to receive state certified training hours and began work on a Master's Degree in Early Childhoold Special Education.

I have enjoyed working with students of all ages at CDS, directing the Summer Program for three years and being an Site Director in the Lower and Middle School Extended Day programs. As preschool teacher and Director, my focus at CDS is primiarily on the preschool program.

In 2009, I began working with prospective preschool families as part of the admissions process. Becoming acquainted with new families and sharing information about Capital Day School is a wonderful experience! Both of my children graduated from CDS, my son in 2003 and my daughter in 2006.

We have been at CDS since 1993 when we came from Germany. Our three girls went from to 8th grade. Their experience at CDS was great. Now one is out of College, two more to go. I was a stay at home mom, but substituted at CDS for many years. In the fall of 2008 I started working fulltime in Ms.Estill's preschool 4 class and I just love it. I have a Masters Degree in Special Education.

I came to CDS in the fall of 2007 after researching schools for both my son and daughter. I knew that I wanted to teach for a school that would offer my children a solid academic foundation as well as teach them a natural love for learning.

Capital Day has FAR surpassed my expectations as both an educator as well as a parent. Our alumni are making great strides in the world around them, and it's an honor to have been a part of their educational and personal successes.

I love being a part of helping each student respect how Math works into their daily lives and how Math has been used to solve some of our country's biggest problems.

Although new to Capital Day School in late 2011, I have seen the strong sense of community at CDS, the focus on academic and social growth for each student and the desire amongst all educators to develop life-long learners.

As a 1998 graduate of Centre College, I, too, value these ideals. It is my hope that through the examination of the English language and a variety of literary sources, I will guide my students in igniting the scholar and socially conscience person within each of them.

Aside from being a teacher, I am also the full-time mother to five amazing children, four of whom are internationally adopted. When I have spare time, I enjoy reading, taking walks, shopping and sneaking in the occasional nap!

Year of Appointment: 2011 Education: Capital Day School: 2002 Transylvania University: 2010 B.A. French Language and Literature, Anthropology minor

Teaching/Work Experience: During the 2010-2011 school year I worked for the City of Deauville, France doing translations for cultural events and teaching preschool and elementary English at Ecole Maternelle Breney and Ecole Elémentaire Fracasse.

Extra-Curricular Responsibilities: Middle School Governor’s Cup coach, Red team homeroom teacher, and Advocacy.

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing Scrabble, reading, playing the piano and singing, exercising, discovering new (to me) music and movies, and traveling.

Additional Thoughts: As an alumna of the school, I know firsthand the value of a Capital Day education. My interest in other cultures and my love of foreign languages which was fostered during my time at Capital Day has given me the opportunity to spend 16 months abroad over the course of three years. In addition to teaching the language and culture of the languages we study, my goal is to cultivate in my students a global awareness and an understanding of other cultures that will prepare them to be good citizens of the world.
