French
Students cultivate an interest, knowledge, and appreciation of foreign languages and cultures at Capital Day School by learning French or Spanish. (Until 2011, French was the primary world language of study; it is now Spanish.) Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students who began studying French in the Lower School continue to build on their oral/aural knowledge and learn about the traditions and holidays of the Francophone world. Middle School students develop a greater understanding of the written concepts of French so that by the end of the eighth grade, they have completed the equivalent of the first year of high school French.
